Support

As someone who desires to work in a creative field it's easy to second guess yourself. I read a lot of comics and I often ask myself, "Am I good enough to make it?" In the moments when you find yourself questioning yourself it's good to have people around you who will listen to your ideas and cheer you on.

I think there are different camps of personal cheerleaders. There are people like your parents who will love anything you do, no matter how badly it blows, but these people don't have bad taste, they just love you so much that they are hopelessly biased towards anything you put out there.

Then there are those that you can bounce ideas off of and who will be honest about what they think. They'll tell you when your idea stinks (hopefully in nicer terms), but also encourage you to keep at it because they believe in your potential.

I'm lucky enough to have both types of people in my life. Pursuing a career is never easy, and it's even harder when it's a career where the gauge of how good you are is whether or not people like it.

I think it's important to find those people who are willing to invest their time into listening to your ideas and cheering you on. You need these people, you need them deeply. There is something to be said about those who stand by you both physically and emotionally. I believe we all have people like this in our lives, so include them and let them see your precious imaginings.
